Depending on the intended application, Housings and enclosures may need to be either rugged, waterproof, vibration-free, or any combination of these traits all while maintaining an attractive cosmetic appearance. Figuring out how such complex assemblies are going to come together is intricate and complicated.

Housings & Enclosures

Housings & Enclosures are solid geometries that protect the internals from the outside world, and also contribute to the aesthetics of the end product.

With over 10 years providing injection molding services, we know how to minimize labor costs without compromising our legendary quality. Our off-shore injection molded enclosures are available in thermoplastic or thermoset plastic and can be fitted with custom features such as switches, interfaces, in-mold, LEDs and more.

ALMAX builds custom machined enclosures using 3 axis and 5 axis CNC milling, and makes it an easy one-stop shop experience. These enclosures are milled from solid stock, which makes them incredibly durable, and allows a very high level of protection from the elements. Machined enclosures are typically milled from aluminum, which machines quickly and cost effectively (we can accommodate other materials on special order).

ALMAX 3D Printing is extremely useful for rapid prototyping and product development, particularly for components for custom electronic enclosures, such as cable support brackets, OLED panel holders, PCB mounts, arms and more.

While fasteners work great in most situations and are exceptionally durable, alternatively snap joints may be used. Snap joints are a very simple, economical and rapid way of join-ing two different components. All types of snap joints have in common the principle that a protruding part of one component, e.g., a hook, stud or bead is deflected briefly during the joining operation and catches within a depression (undercut) in the mating component.

Interconnects

Interconnects are what allows power, communication or GPIO to travel from source to destination and vise-versa.

Flex circuits make electronic interconnection both simpler and more reliable. FPC interconnects are often used in applications where high signal speed, power distribution, heat, flexibility or space savings are issues. ALMAX can provide your complete interconnect solution.

When the slim form factor of custom FPC interconnects is not required, and thanks to the plethora of cables available from suppliers worldwide, it is simple and easy to use these premade or ready-to-assemble cables/harness's along with readily available mating connectors as an alternative.

In some cases, we may recommend using Molex's SlimStack line of products as they can be very effective for use in tight locations and angles, and also are surface mountable to both Rigid and Flexible circuits alike.

Another potential consideration for certain applications is the use of Direct Mounting or Castellated Modules. We commonly use this method for making custom LED display modules but has its purposes elsewhere such as with RFID and WiFi modules.

EMC & Shielding

As a body comes into contact with different materials, it is charged with negative electrons. When those electrons come into contact with grounded conductive objects such as those found in membrane switches, they create a quick discharge of energy, or electrostatic discharge (ESD).

A grid array is a layer typically integrated into a circuit stack or membrane switch construction. It can be grounded to a trace on the interface panel and then routed to a grounded plane on the motherboard to carry the static charge away from any nearby conductive components. A separate tail for the shielding layer can also be designed to connect to the housing or another mechanical piece already grounded.

Conductive Laminates provide a higher level of dissipative properties compared to grid arrays, but they can also be more expensive. To determine which technique should be used, consider the absorptive properties of the overlay materials used in your project.

Labels & Nameplates

Our labels & nameplates can serve a wide array of different use cases. Our lables & nameplates allow various graphics to be printed directly onto various substrates, along with mounting options, special coatings & more.
